Day of Caring Items Needed

The Annual United Way of the VA Peninsula’s Day of Caring will be held on Friday, September 7. Many nonprofits will have projects for community volunteers to take on to help their agency, however, various items are needed in order for the Volunteers to complete the projects:

Youth Volunteer Corps of Hampton Roads is seeking the following donations for multiple Day of Caring projects: Plastic bottle caps (any size, any color) to be used for recycled art project; Sheets of ½-inch all-weather plywood (preferably treated wood for outdoor use); Self-tapping ½-inch Phillips head screws. These materials will be used to construct Little Free Libraries for local schools, as well as outdoor recycled art for trails and courtyards. For details and to arrange for drop off, please call Katie at 757-223-7078 or contact her via email.

Gloucester Mathews Care Clinic – We have a two-fold project – beautification and safety.  We want to plant flowers in our patient entrance area and spruce that up, and also re-paint the lines in our two parking lots for safety.  We will need flowers, mulch, gardening supplies, etc., and are hoping to get some donated from Walmart, Lowe’s and Home Depot, but haven’t put out those requests yet.  We will also need paint for the parking lot, but it’s a specific type of durable paint.  For details and to arrange for drop off, please contact Arlene via email.

Peninsula READS will be using volunteers to give their space a face lift. They are in need of paint and painting supplies – brushes, rollers, roller extension poles, paint trays, drop clothes, rags, putty, putty knives, sandpaper, painter’s tape, and other related items. For details and to donate items, please contact Paula Bazemore via email or phone (757.223.5115). Thank you!
