Homeless Connect

The Newport News Dept. of Human Services will be holding an event called “Homeless Connect” on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 to provide support to the homeless on the Peninsula.  We are seeking volunteers to serve during the event so we can support as many homeless individuals as possible. Homeless Connect Event hosted by the City of Newport News Department of Human Services

This one day event will bring nearly 200 homeless adults to one venue to receive immediate services and support in financial, wellness, and empowerment services areas.  Participants include the Department of Human Services, Veteran’s Affairs, Southeastern Virginia Health Systems, Lion’s Club, and more! 

Wednesday, January 24, 2018
8:00 AM – 2:00 PM (2 hour shifts available)

Doris Miller Community Center

Volunteer Needs:

  • Event Set-up
  • Food station (distribution of food, maintenance, clean-up)
  • Greeting guests
  • Check-in/ registration
  • Supporting the participants in navigating the stations at the event
  • Assisting the vendors with customer service
  • Volunteer station
  • Event clean-up

*Groups and individuals are welcome to volunteer!
* Great opportunity for anyone interested in the human services, social services, community outreach, and homeless issues fields!
* Volunteers serving at least 2 hours will receive either breakfast or lunch (based upon shift selected)!

Attire: Pants with flat shoes (event is in a gymnasium). White shirts preferred but not required.
