Grant Writing for Faith Based & International Organizations – closed – Debbie DiVirgilio, MNM, GPC, CGT, www.non-profitconsultant.com – Yes, faith based organizations can receive grant funds! This workshop will cover the sections of a grant proposal and provide tips and strategies for success. We will also have a discussion about how to best approach foundations and corporations who indicate they will not support religious organizations. Recognizing that many faith based organizations provide services internationally, the session will include a special focus on obtaining international funding.
Effective Grants Research – closed – 11:30 am – 1:30 pm – Allison Brody, Director of Community Resource Development and Engagement, Williamsburg Health Foundation – Writing winning grants starts with identifying the foundations already inclined to support your mission and programs. Come and learn how to effectively use the Foundation Center, the leading source of information on grant opportunities from across the country. This will include insight as to how the IRS categorizes your work so you may better identify foundation prospects and make your grant writing more productive. Quickbooks – Preparing Budgets & Reports – closed – Florence Santoro, Principal of ABS-Accounting & Bookkeeping Solutions – In both sessions, participants will go through preparing budgets using Quickbooks. This session will also cover how to pull various Reports, including Grants Reports, Board Reports, etc. If you have specific topics related to these two areas that you want to be sure Florence addresses, please email us so it can be added to the workshop agendas.
Putting the Success in Succession Planning! – May 17 – 11:30 am – 1:30 pm – Janet V. Green, CEO, Habitat for Humanity Peninsula & Greater Williamsburg. CEO succession planning is a “best practice” that many nonprofit Boards and CEOs put off until they are forced to face a transition. Boards may hope their CEO will never leave – or at least not while they’re on the Board. Some CEOs don’t think about succession planning as they are busy with other priorities. The best Boards know they will be stronger if a plan is in place, and the best CEOs are always preparing for what comes next. This workshop is geared to CEOs/EDs/Board members, and discussion includes planned and unplanned transitions, including steps to take to mitigate risk. Handouts will include a checklist of steps for the Board and CEO to consider and a sample succession plan. Time will be allotted for questions and exchange of ideas.
