2020 CROP Walk goes Virtual
All Fall CROP Hunger Walks will be virtual, but the need for donations could not be greater. Since spring CROP Hunger Walks were down nearly $1 million this year, it is urgent that fall walks raise funds to provide solutions to hunger, poverty, housing, and disaster relief both locally and around the world.

This year, individual teams can walk on their own, with immediate family members, or in small groups. Teams can choose a date between September 1 – October 10 to walk around a block in the neighborhood or church, a nature trail, a parking lot, a recreation area or some other suitable setting. Teams should follow health and safety guidelines by wearing masks and social distancing.

The 25th Newport News/Peninsula CROP Hunger Walk celebration will be held October 18 with a Zoom Presentation at 2pm and a Car Parade starting at 3pm at Grace United Methodist Church on Shoe Lane. As cars drive through the parking lot, teams will drop off their donations, shoes collected for THRIVE, and canned food for the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank. This will be a culminating celebration in place of the usual kick off.

Both THRIVE Peninsula and the Peninsula Food Bank are beneficiaries of CROP Walk donations. To join or start a team and/or donate to the CROP Hunger Walk go to www.crophungerwalk.org/newportnewsva.
