Co-founder Anne Henry – Soundscapes would not exist were it not for the vision and drive of Co-founder Anne W. Henry. After returning to the Virginia Peninsula following a successful career on the West Coast, Anne was inspired to create Soundscapes as an ideal solution to address many of the challenges faced by young people in our community. She and Co-founder and Program Director Reynaldo Ramirez based Soundscapes on El Sistema, a globally-acclaimed program that uses youth orchestras to produce positive community change.

For the past 13 years, Soundscapes has grown and thrived under Anne’s leadership as Executive Director. Through her passion and clear communication of her vision, Anne has brought together an ever-growing group of leaders and supporters who share her desire to improve the lives of our community’s youth and her belief that music uniquely provides them with opportunities to express themselves, to create, and to develop important life skills.

In May of this year, Anne moved into a new role as Director of Government Initiatives, which will allow her to continue using her gifts for building community connections to benefit the organization she created. At the Oct. 1 Gala, Anne will be honored for her vital role in inspiring and building Soundscapes during its first 13 years.

Ensamble 7/4 was born nearly a decade ago out of the friendship of seven young participants in El Sistema in Venezuela. Their aim is to share Venezuelan folk music with the world, making it synonymous with excellence. They have toured in Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United States. Their third album, Welcome to America, won a Silver Medal at The Global Music Awards.

They are known for their high-energy performances that bring whole theaters to their feet. Soundscapes is proud to bring their enthusiasm and artistry to Hampton Roads for the first time. In addition to what is sure to be an amazing night at the Soundscapes Gala, Ensamble 7/4 will be doing a week-long residency to share their skills and expertise with our students.
