Shoes

Communities In Schools of Hampton Roads invites the community to help their cause by donating shoes!

Communities In School of Hampton Roads is conducting a shoe drive fundraiser called Slay It Forward beginning on February 1, 2021 through on March 31, 2021 to raise funds to support and incentivize our staff during this hard time. CISofHR will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes collected, as Funds2Orgs will issue a check for the collected shoes. Those dollars will benefit our staff and enable them to continue to surround students with a community of support. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used and new shoes at the Communities In Schools of Hampton Roads main office.

Shoes can also be picked up on the Peninsula. Please call 757-580-7966 or email Hope to arrange for pick up of your donated shoes.

All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise (small business) partners. Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs in helping them create, maintain and grow small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunity and jobs are limited. Proceeds from the sales of the shoes collected in shoe drive fundraisers are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send her son to law school.

“We are excited about our shoe drive happening all month long. You can drop shoes off at our main office location or donate online via our website and we will purchase the shoes.” said Rico Robinson, Executive Assistant. “We also know that most people have tons of extra shoes in their closets and they would love to donate them to us. Here’s a thought, all those shoes you used to slay, make someone else’s day and Slay It Forward. By doing just that, we raise money that will benefit our staff and enable them to continue to surround our students with a community of support, and we have the chance to help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities. It is definitely a win-win for everyone.” said Hope Sinclair, Executive Director.

By donating gently worn, used and new shoes to Communities In Schools of Hampton Roads the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives around the world.

For nearly 40 years, Communities In Schools has been helping students achieve in school, graduate and go on to bright futures. Our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. The story of Communities In Schools began in the 1970s, when Founder Bill Milliken, then a youth advocate in New York City, came up with the idea of bringing community resources inside public schools. Bill once said. “Young people thrive when adults care about them on a one-to-one level, and when they also have a sense of belonging to a caring community.”
