Community of Faith Mission (COFM) coordinates Williamsburg’s emergency winter shelter program for men, women and families who are experiencing homelessness. The shelter moves to a new host church each week and is staffed primarily by volunteers from that church and other partner churches.
COFM is looking to hire an intern in their sophomore or junior year of college to help with some of the day-to-day operations. The hours would be variable as would the tasks, but would be around 10 hours per week during the shelter season (November – March) with fewer hours needed outside of the shelter season. Tasks previous interns have preformed include compiling statistics, preparing reports, serving guests in the shelter, managing inventory, delivering shelter schedule cards throughout the community, assisting the Executive Director and Board Members in assigned projects, working at our annual fundraiser Warm Up Williamsburg and helping to promote fundraising efforts using social media. Past interns have gained valuable insight into how to run a non-profit organization and operate a shelter program. Applicants should be able to utilize spreadsheet and word processing programs, have excellent communication skills both oral and written and be willing to work variable hours. This job is largely flexible in the times when tasks can be completed as long as deadlines are met, and we will accommodate the intern’s school schedule since that is top priority.
The pay would be $12 per hour.
