Multiple Volunteer Opportunities – Serve the City Peninsula

Bingo Volunteers to Support Local Schools & Nonprofits – Community Knights is in need of volunteers to help at their twice weekly Bingo games where money raised is awarded to local schools and nonprofits across Hampton Roads.

Read to children – Hampton Roads Community Action Program (HRCAP) is seeking volunteers to read to engage children in learning activities in our community. Our Volunteers Who Read Program helps children succeed academically. Volunteer hours are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 10:30 am and Fridays from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Senior Assistance- Williamsburg Faith in Action needs volunteers to transport care receivers to doctor’s appointments, the grocery store, bank, pharmacy, etc. Volunteers also provide in-home services such as caregiver support, visits, and light chores. If you have a few hours to dedicate to someone who may need to get to a doctor’s appointment, or just enjoy a friendly visit, please call us at (757) 258-5890.

Help Patients Applying for Medicaid – Olde Towne Medical & Dental Center is in need of people who can sit with their patients and spend approx 1 hour helping them fill out forms. We will train. Hours flexible. Please email Elaine Swartz.

Garden Volunteers – Grove Community Garden is seeking volunteers to help in the evenings in the garden. To learn more, contact Jordan Sturdivant at 756 418-5274.

Garden Volunteers- Williamsburg Community Growers- Join us for a couple of hours of fun garden work planting, weeding, harvesting, learning about small scale farming and participating in our local food system! Our one-acre garden is located under the Dominion Energy power lines between Warhill High School and WISC, off Stadium Road. Tuesday evenings and second Saturday mornings available. BOARD MEMBER NEEDS:

Communities In Schools is seeking 2-3 board members from the area who can help raise awareness for their mission and values and growth on the Peninsula. They are currently in one school in Hampton. Their mission is to surround students with a community of support, encouraging them to stay in school and achieve in life. The DeGood Foundation is seeking to expand its Board of Directors. Their mission is to help children of the Virginia Peninsula Dream More, Learn More, Care More, and Be More through our programs for change of youth literacy, health, and education.
